Mystery Plays Manuscript returns to York
Missing from the City for centuries, the Manuscript has been in the care of the British Library. Working with York Art Gallery, the Guilds have helped create a York Mystery Plays exhibition with the manuscript at its centre. Visitors will be able experience moving images from the Plays, and hear the displayed manuscript page being read by actors. Visitors will also get to see displays of important medieval records from the City.
York Art Gallery have helped create a supporting exhibition of drawings, paintings and etchings from its own collection depicting the 12 playing stations at which the pageant wagons would perform.
The exhibition opens on Easter Saturday, 3rd April at York Art Gallery will run until the end of September. The Manuscript will be on display from 3rd April to the end of July, including the week of the Plays' performances on 11th and 18th July.
